The head of an investment bank proposed that managers’ performance in improving the recruitment and retention of senior women, should be assessed as part of their annual appraisals, and commissioned a series of workshops, aimed at increasing awareness of the bank’s performance in retaining senior women. Managers shared experiences, perspectives and best practice in managing and retaining women. 80% of the bank’s Managing Director population attended the workshops.

The initiative raised the profile of the issue of women’s retention across the bank, and provided leaders with the tools to create a working environment where women could successfully develop their careers.
