Careers Advice for Young People Embarking on a First Career
Making good career decisions on leaving university has never been more important nor more difficult. It requires complex thinking...gathering information about yourself.
We know that the standard sources of advice are not always enough and that university careers services resources are often overstretched.
We have frequently been asked by clients if we can help their children, perhaps through being a wise independent listener and perhaps to do some psychometric tests.
We have often done this as a personal favour, although it is not our core area of expertise.
However, we are delighted to announce that we can now offer clients and friends access to a highly experienced, highly professional service in this specialised area.
Shiona Llewellyn and her company - Real World Career Management are offering individual, tailor-made programmes for young people aged 21-29 years. Based in our offices, the typical programme includes:
- 3 one-to-one half day sessions, linked by e-mail and telephone support, where we will explore personal histories, ambitions and concerns, in order to develop a practical personal plan supported by a relevant ‘toolkit’ of skills and materials
- Assisted by Praesta, a range of relevant psychometric assessment tests, with detailed analysis and feedback from qualified professionals
Shiona Llewellyn has been known to us, and Robin Linnecar in particular, as a careers professional, for more than twenty years. Totally committed to providing high quality, focused and accessible careers guidance, she works very successfully as an independent consultant, advising young people in this age range. She has also been commissioned by a diversity of blue-chip organisations to help new joiners who have started off a career and then decided it wasn’t for them. Real World Career Management Limited will provide this unique service in conjunction with Praesta for our clients. We are looking forward to helping the children of Praesta clients and colleagues in this way.
Every individual has a great deal to offer, but it is not always easy to identify and release his/her full potential. Those who are parents are very aware that young people will often listen to, and take advice from, independent people whom they trust. We would be delighted to help sons and daughters of your own or those known to you to help themselves to embark upon the early stages of their career in a positive way.
Issues that spring to mind include:
- I’ve left university but still have no idea what to do
- Do I do a Masters or not?
- Should I embark on another gap year?
- Shall I do a law conversion or accountancy for three years and then decide?
- I’m disappointed with my degree result and have lost confidence
- I am not having any success getting established in a popular career area
