Graeme Hardie
Throughout my career I have sought to create management teams and cultures that are self renewing, that not only survive but thrive in the constantly changing world today. Building environments that don’t rely on any one individual, their character, their style, or their drive. For me creating sustainable success as a leader is not about focussing ones efforts on achieving the holy grail of being the “greatest motivator” but about identifying and helping to remove the obstacles that individuals find de-motivating in their endeavours to deliver success for themselves and their company.
Experience
Graeme strongly believes that if you truly want to be successful, to exceed your targets and make a major impact on your business you must be open to challenge, you must actively seek it, listen to those who do and then execute your decisions effectively. Jim Collins books ‘Good to Great’ and ‘Built to Last’ reinforced Graeme’s belief that there are styles of management which are destined to build sustainable success. Importantly, these can be learnt and applied whether you work in the private, public, or charitable sectors.
Many view Graeme as one of the key leaders over the last 10 years in the transformation of three of the UK’s major retail financial services companies. During that period he learnt a great deal about how to build successful teams, to execute transformational change programmes whilst exceeding targets, and to deliver the success that Boards, shareholders and customers demand. Graeme left the main Board of Abbey National, the UK’s 6th largest bank, in September 2006 having completed the critical stage of one of the most challenging turnarounds in UK Retail banking and overseen the company’s progress from a loss of £(151mn) to a profit of £680mn.
He was a member of the retail team at RBSG which made history in 2000 with the UK’s largest financial services takeover of NatWest (£22Bn). Graeme was parachuted in to lead the transformation of the NatWest Retail Banking franchise, initially in charge of the Change Programme and then as Managing Director. Before that, he was involved in Project Columbus that set the foundations for the success now being enjoyed at the Royal Bank of Scotland Group.
He now helps others to transform their businesses and personal performance. His approach is balanced in an understanding of theoretical management training with a strong emphasis on real life, practical management experience that will help make a difference to your bottom line and career.
