Mark Powell
Mark’s clients are typically regional GMs, MDs or executives in senior commercial roles or with a senior functional responsibility. He works extensively with senior regional executive teams and high potential teams. They come from a range of industries including Energy; Food & Alcohol; Financial Services; Manufacturing; Oil and Gas; Professional Services; and Technology.
Experience
Mark brings to coaching and facilitation, extensive senior level business experience, a keen awareness of the process of change and true appreciation of cultural diversity having lived and worked across Asia for the past 13 years.
A typical assignment will be working with a leader who has a specific change agenda, accelerating the development of a leader who has recently transitioned into a new role or working with a senior executive who knows that the future requires a different set of behaviours. He also does extensive work with senior teams across the region, helping them to deliver project outcomes whilst concurrently developing their collective leadership capacity.
In addition to his work as an executive and team coach, Mark facilitates leadership off-sites that focus on the core challenges of leadership, including strategy development; aligning execution with strategy, and getting organisational engagement through culturally diverse teams. He also helps individuals undertaking their own career transition, particularly where this transition is taking place mid-career. His other organisational consulting work includes assessing both internal and external leadership candidates for succession.
His core philosophy is that an effective coach/facilitator, needs to maintain a commitment to the joint goals of development and performance, even if at times this creates tension and paradox.
Mark’s clients appreciate his ability to support them through change whilst maintaining a focus on specific action plans required for immediate performance impact. He stretches his clients with creative approaches that focus on developing their interactions with others, as this relational context is where true leadership takes place. Both his clients and colleagues appreciate his genuine nature, his commitment to their development, and his ability to see a different perspective.
Mark has previously held senior line management positions in business banking, debt markets, and funds management for Citibank and Macquarie Bank in Australia. He has also launched two start-up businesses that were subsequently sold to larger companies. More recently, Mark operated his own boutique executive search firm with offices in Hong Kong and Singapore, conducting senior-level searches across 9 countries in Asia. His work has included multiple assignments in the core regional hubs of Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore and Tokyo. He has spoken at regional forums on executive assessment, career management and leadership.
Mark currently resides in Singapore where he has lived for 8 years. He was previously living in Hong Kong for 6 years. His personal interests inlcude psychology, writing and theatre. He is a former international Rugby Referee and maintains a keen interest in health, fitness and optimal performance. He is also personally committed to his own mindfulness journey and when and where appropriate brings this into his coaching work.
